Cryptic return to ArtHouse Jersey as part of an ongoing exchange supporting artists across Sonica Glasgow.

Using electronics and voice, Alex Smoke creates a new work inspired by nature, drawing from the local landscape while in residence at the Greve de Lecq Barracks. Sonically, the piece will explore the boundaries between natural sound and its artificial representations. Responding to Alex’s compositions, visual artist Veronica Petukhov will capture the scenery of Jersey on film and develop into real time visuals. The project will culminate in a meditative concert experience, blending sound and visuals to evoke a deep connection with the environment.

They are joined by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Curlew. During her residency, she will focus on exploring the connection between cold water and mental health. Having experienced depression and developed a deep fascination with wild water, she now finds solace and joy in the sea. Her daily cold-water dips have become a powerful ritual, one she intends to examine and document through various creative media. Her research will involve capturing audio field recordings, conducting interviews with local wild swimmers and delving into the folklore and superstitions surrounding the sea across the British Isles. Curlew will present these findings in a live multimedia performance.
